War – Courtesy of ~ Jason Phillips
A popular game for mixed ability groups.2 archers per target โ ideally as two similar ability archers. Split a 60cm single target in half diagonally through the centre with a length of elastic and designate an archer to each half /warzone. Scoring is basic 1 to 5 to keep it simple. Line cutters on the elastic must be defined at outset โ usually with a ping of the elastic, you will see a clear side on which the arrow has landed. Each End is a battle, and the idea is to get the highest score in โyour halfโ of the target to win the battle. It works well with ends of 3 or 6 arrows. i.e. Both shoot at the same target, with the intention to get the best score on their half. If your opponentโs arrows land in your half then these are yours to score in your half and vice versa! It’s great if you want to take the risk of getting golds (scoring 5 each arrow), but make sure it lands on your half of the gold! Each battle will provide a winner in each pair, and you can run this as long as you like โ say best of 3 or best of 5 etc Expand the game to keep the battle winners to play against each other if everyone is a similar ability, and/or use smaller target faces to make it more interesting.
